Fiji’s Young Kulas Show Grit Despite Heavy Defeat in World Cup Opener

The Digicel Fiji Young Kulas endured a heavy 9-0 defeat against Brazil in their first match at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia on Sunday. Despite the scoreline, the team displayed impressive determination and spirit throughout the game.

Coach Angeline Chua noted the significant experience gained from facing one of the top football nations in the world. She pointed out that many players had only viewed Brazil on television before this encounter, making the opportunity to compete against such a renowned team particularly special.

Chua emphasized the historical importance of this event for Fiji and commended the players for their brave attitude and dedication to creating a memorable moment for their country.

“Even though the challenge was formidable, our players put forth their best effort, while Brazil’s well-structured and skilled squad illustrated the standard of football that teams like ours aspire to achieve,” she stated in her post-match remarks.

Fiji’s next match is scheduled against Canada at 1pm (Fiji Time) tomorrow. Canada previously played to a 3-3 draw with France in their opening match.
