Despite suffering a heavy 9-0 loss to Brazil in their opening match at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia on Sunday, the Digicel Fiji Young Kulas displayed impressive determination and spirit.
Coach Angeline Chua noted the significant experience gained from competing against one of the top football nations globally and remarked that the match offered players, many of whom had only viewed Brazil on television, a unique chance to play against a powerhouse team.
She highlighted the match’s historical importance for Fiji and commended the girls for their fearless attitude and dedication to making history.
“Despite the immense challenge, our players gave their all, and Brazil’s well-organized and skilled team showcased the level of football that aspiring teams like ours strive to achieve,” Chua stated in her post-match comments.
Fiji’s next match is against Canada, scheduled for 1 PM (Fiji Time) tomorrow. Canada had a thrilling 3-3 draw in their opening match against France.
