Fiji’s Young Kulas Set to Make World Cup History Against Brazil

The Digicel Fiji Young Kulas are on the brink of a significant milestone as they prepare for their first match at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia. The team is set to take on Brazil in an exciting debut after extensive training since late July.

Fiji Football CEO Mohammed Yusuf noted that the players have dedicated themselves to high-performance training to get ready for this pivotal moment. “We began our preparation and high-performance training sessions locally in late July, allowing ample time for the girls to get ready. Now, it’s time for the showdown,” Yusuf stated.

The team also benefitted from a ten-day training camp in San Francisco, where they played matches against U20 teams from Costa Rica and Morocco as part of their preparation. Yusuf emphasized that the players are ready both physically and mentally for the challenges ahead. “It will be a tough match, but I believe the girls will make Fiji proud by showcasing their talent.”

Among the team members are three players from the United States, all expected to participate in the match, as well as 15-year-old goalkeeper Aliana Vakaloloma, who impressed in previous encounters against Costa Rica and Morocco.

Fiji’s opening match against Brazil is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 AM, followed by a game against Canada next Wednesday at 1 PM.
