The Fiji Young Kulas are gearing up to launch their OFC Girls Under-16 Championship journey, emphasizing not only victory but also the vital growth and experience of Fiji’s young female footballers. The team has undergone extensive preparation with a focused four-week training camp in Fiji leading up to the tournament.

Head coach Marika Rodu highlighted the significance of this tournament as a developmental milestone for his team. “We’re expecting a tough competition from Tahiti, and it will be crucial for us to defend well and seize our opportunities to secure those three points,” he explained ahead of their opening match scheduled for today at 10 AM.

The squad boasts a diverse range of experience, featuring players who are competing in their third Under-16 championship, alongside others making their debut. This configuration not only showcases the depth of talent but also underscores the ongoing commitment to women’s football in Fiji.

Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammed Yusuf has expressed confidence in the young athletes, emphasizing the importance of their hard work and dedication. He acknowledged the coaching staff’s efforts in tapping talent from remote areas, which has been instrumental in fostering grassroots football and ensuring the selection reflects the players’ skills and determination.

With the added motivation of qualifying for the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup in Morocco next year for the top two teams, the Young Kulas embark on this tournament with hope and dedication. Their hard work and focus on development signal a promising future for women’s football in Fiji, reinforcing the growing investment in the sport and the potential it holds for young female athletes in the region.
