Fiji’s Young Kulas Seek Redemption After Tough Losses at U20 World Cup

The Digicel Fiji Young Kulas encountered another significant defeat in their second match at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, suffering a 9-0 loss to a strong Canadian team.

Similar to their opening match against Brazil, the Young Kulas struggled against their opponents, with Canada netting seven goals in the first half. Anabelle Chuckwu scored a hat-trick, while captain Olivia Smith and Kayla Brigs each contributed two goals.

Despite the heavy losses, defender Talei Moodie remains hopeful about the team’s development through these experiences.

“As newcomers to this level of competition, we anticipated facing tough opposition and encountering new challenges,” Moodie said. “This experience is valuable for us to learn and improve, and I believe it will only motivate us to get better.”

Looking forward to their final pool match against France, Moodie emphasized the team’s commitment to learn from their previous games and demonstrate improvement on the field.

Fiji will take on France in their last pool match this Saturday at 10 a.m.
