Fiji’s Young Kulas Ready to Make History at FIFA U20 World Cup!

The Digicel Young Kulas, Fiji’s U20 women’s football team, are set to begin their international tour tomorrow, which will take them to the United States and Costa Rica, leading to Colombia where they will participate in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup at the end of the month.

During a ceremony held on Thursday night, the team was officially presented with their jerseys for the World Cup. The jerseys feature traditional Fijian designs, reflecting the country’s rich cultural heritage and distinct identity.

Midfielder Adi Litia Bakaniceva will captain the team, with defender Angie Rekha taking on the role of vice-captain.

Sports World has provided the squad with Puma boots and training gear, while Kappa, the official apparel supplier, has designed kits that include jerseys embellished with traditional Fijian Masi patterns, as well as casual outfits for the team.

Vinod Kumar, General Manager of Sports World, expressed his pride in supporting the team and extended best wishes for their success. “We have sponsored all the male teams, but when the call came for the National Women’s team, we didn’t hesitate. We are committed to providing our girls with the best, and I am confident that they will bring glory to Fiji,” he stated.

Naziah Ali Krishna, the Team Head of Delegation, highlighted the importance of the upcoming tour and competition. She noted the support received during their recent training camp in Australia from the local community and the Fijian High Commission, as well as the Australia Fiji Football Incorporation.

The Digicel Young Kulas will spend ten days in the US for matches and training in San Francisco and Sacramento, before heading to Costa Rica for a week of friendly matches against Costa Rica and Morocco. These experiences aim to improve their skills and provide crucial exposure ahead of the World Cup.

Fiji will face Brazil, Canada, and France in their group, with their opening match scheduled for August 31 in Medellin, Colombia, against Brazil.

The team also presented their i-Tatau to the President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, prior to their departure for San Francisco.
