Fiji’s Young Kulas Get a Boost from Rising Star Ahead of World Cup Opener

Talented forward Talei Moodie from California State University has caught the attention of the coaching staff for the Fiji Young Kulas as they gear up for their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup opener against Brazil.

Moodie joined the team in Medellin, Colombia on Wednesday and has quickly blended into the squad. Coaches have praised her strong work ethic and adaptability on the field.

Assistant Coach Anette Nainima commented on Moodie’s potential, stating, “Talei has shown great promise in training. Her ability to read the game and her willingness to step into any role needed are exactly what we need as we prepare for tough competition like Brazil.”

Reflecting on her experience so far, Moodie shared her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m really happy to be here and to have the opportunity to train with such a hardworking and welcoming group. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team in any way I can, especially as we head into this important match against Brazil.”

She also expressed her pride in representing Fiji, noting, “Representing Fiji means I’m not just representing the country, but also my family—my grandparents, my aunts, my uncles, my mom. Growing up in the United States, my mom made sure I was aware of the Fijian culture, and I want to feel more connected to my people.”

Moodie’s participation is viewed as a valuable asset to the team’s ambitions as they aim to make a significant impact on the international stage.

The Young Kulas will face Brazil in their first match, scheduled to kick off at 11 am.
