The Fiji Young Kulas will gather for a training camp this week as they prepare for two FIFA International Friendly matches against Papua New Guinea, scheduled for May 30 and June 2. The extended squad comprises 33 players, including only four based overseas, with notable names like Angeline Rekha from Western Springs and Adi Litia Bakaniceva from Hekari WFC.
Among the squad, 11 players currently represent Ba Women’s in the ongoing OFC Women’s Champions League in Tahiti, illustrating Ba’s strong influence within the national team. The extended squad features significant representation from several clubs: 13 players from Ba, two from Nadi, one from Lautoka, seven from Labasa, one from Tailevu/Naitasiri, one from Suva, and eight from Rewa.
The final 22-member squad will be announced on May 22 following the two-week camp, as the team looks to foster teamwork and tactical growth in preparation for these vital matches. These friendly encounters are seen as crucial opportunities for players to showcase their skills and improve their prospects for selection in future competitions, including upcoming qualifiers for major tournaments.
This initiative marks a positive step in building a competitive women’s football team in Fiji, reinforcing the growing commitment to developing female athletic talent within the region. The expected high-level performances in these friendlies could boost the visibility and support for women’s football, inspiring the next generation of female athletes in Fiji.
