Shakeel Pillay and Rajat Rai will represent Fiji at the Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Championship in Japan from October 3 to 6. Nineteen-year-old Pillay is making his debut at the Championship, having previously finished as the runner-up in the Western Amateur Championship and securing seventh place in the Fiji Golf Classic earlier this year. In 2022, he represented Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games in the Northern Mariana Islands and won the Nadi Open in 2021.
Seventeen-year-old Rai is also taking part in the Championship for the first time. Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra expressed pride in sending two players to this prestigious event after a three-year break. Chandra stated, “Golf Fiji is confident that the two players will do Golf Fiji proud at the event, and it is after three years that Golf Fiji has been able to send two players to the event.”
