Shakeel Pillay and Rajat Rai will represent Fiji at the Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Japan from October 3 to 6.
Nineteen-year-old Pillay is set to make his debut at the championship. Earlier this year, he achieved runner-up status at the Western Amateur Championship and secured seventh place in the Fiji Golf Classic. In 2022, he represented Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games in the Northern Mariana Islands and triumphed at the Nadi Open in 2021.
Seventeen-year-old Rai is also entering the Championship for the first time.
Amitesh Chandra, president of Golf Fiji, expressed pride in sending two players to this significant event after a three-year absence.
“Golf Fiji is confident that the two players will do Golf Fiji proud at the event, and after three years, Golf Fiji has successfully sent two players to participate,” Chandra stated.
