The Fiji Under 15 Basketball team had a special meeting with President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the State House on November 6. During this occasion, the young athletes presented their iTautau, a traditional Fijian gesture of respect and gratitude.

The President praised the team, expressing his pride in their accomplishments at such a young age. He acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, particularly as they prepare for their upcoming Championship competition in Australia. “You are representing Fiji in a sport that is gaining global prominence, and several young players from Fiji are even making their mark in the United States,” he noted.

Katonivere urged the players to remember the hard work, guidance, and support they have received from their coaches and parents throughout their training. He reminded them of their roles as ambassadors for Fiji and emphasized that their participation transcends basketball, impacting all sports in the nation.

The Head of State encouraged the young athletes to strive for excellence in both their sports and education, understanding that they must balance their commitments as students. “It is a remarkable achievement to represent Fiji at such a young age, and I believe you will perform excellently in Australia. Play with passion and represent Fiji with pride,” he said.

This meeting not only celebrates the dedication of the young team but also highlights the importance of education and sportsmanship in their development. With their eyes set on international competition, these young athletes are not only ambassadors of their country but also role models for their peers.

By providing encouragement and support from prominent figures like the President, the team is inspired to excel and bring honor to Fiji, fostering a spirit of unity and pride in their nation.
