Loata Lewageena, a standout athlete from Ratu Sukuna Memorial School, has broken records once again, this time in the intermediate girls’ discus throw. The 17-year-old achieved a remarkable throw of 46.02 meters, which topped her earlier attempt of 44.87 meters, both surpassing the previous record of 42.54 meters set in 2024 by Brieanna Rabakena of Swami Vivekananda College.
Lewageena’s outstanding performance was further emphasized as she entered the Fiji Finals with a notable previous best of 42.55 meters recorded at the Suva Zone 1 competition, already exceeding the Games record. This achievement underscores the rising talent and competitive spirit among young athletes in Fiji, similar to the uplifting trend observed at various recent competitions where records have been shattered across events, signaling a bright future for athletics in the country.
Other young athletes like Salanieta Cereivalu and Celestine Atalifo are also making headlines with their impressive achievements in javelin and discus throw, respectively. Their performances at competitions reflect a new wave of excellence, driving their peers to pursue their athletic dreams with determination and resilience.
The emphasis on these records does not only highlight individual achievements but reinforces a community spirit and pride in Fijian sports, inspiring future generations to excel in athletics.
