The Fiji Primary School Athletics competition is set to be an exciting event featuring 142 events for both boys and girls, which includes 72 individual events and 18 relays.

This event, which began in the mid-1980s as a local competition in Suva, has evolved into a national event that attracts athletes from all over Fiji. After a successful return in Lautoka last year following disruptions due to Covid-19, the 2024 edition is anticipated to bring even more excitement and competition.

The competition will highlight the talents and commitment of young athletes aged under 9 to U14. Patrick Bower, President of the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association, emphasized the event’s prestige, stating that trophies will be presented to winners in various age groups as well as to overall champions.

Bower confirmed that districts such as Suva one, Suva two, Nadi, Nadroga Navosa, Lautoka, Bua, Labasa, Macuata South, Vanuabalavu, and Ra will be participating. He noted strong interest from Tailevu South, Northland, Serua Namosi, Lami, and even Wallis and Futuna.

He also expressed gratitude to key supporters including the Ministry of Education, Sportsworld, Jack’s of Fiji, RB Patel, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Fiji Sports Council for their essential support in facilitating the event.

As preparations proceed and excitement increases, the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Competition aims to present another impressive display of youthful talent. The event is scheduled to take place on October 28-29 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
