The Fiji Primary School Athletics competition is preparing for an exciting event featuring a total of 142 competitions for both boys and girls, comprising 72 individual contests and 18 relays.
Since its inception in the mid-1980s, this renowned event has expanded from a local competition in Suva to a national celebration, attracting young athletes from across Fiji.
After successfully resuming in Lautoka last year following the disruptions caused by Covid-19, the upcoming 2024 competition is set to offer even greater excitement and a vibrant competitive atmosphere.
This year’s event will highlight the talents and hard work of young athletes from the under-9 to U14 age groups.
Patrick Bower, the President of the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association, emphasized the significance of this competition, noting that trophies will be awarded to winners in individual age categories as well as to the overall champions.
“The following districts have confirmed their participation: Suva one, Suva two, Nadi, Nadroga Navosa, Lautoka, Bua, Labasa, Macuata South, Vanuabalavu, and Ra,” Bower announced. “We are also receiving strong interest from Tailevu South, Northland, Serua Namosi, Lami, and even Wallis and Futuna.”
Bower extended his gratitude to essential supporters such as the Ministry of Education, Sportsworld, Jack’s of Fiji, RB Patel, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Fiji Sports Council for their crucial roles in making this event a reality.
With enthusiasm on the rise and preparations underway, the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Competition is expected to be a remarkable event showcasing the talents of young athletes.
The competition is scheduled to take place on October 28-29 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
