The Fiji Primary School Athletics competition is approaching, featuring an impressive array of 142 events for both boys and girls, which includes 72 individual events and 18 relays.
This event, which started in the mid-1980s, has evolved from a local competition in Suva to a national showcase, attracting young athletes from across Fiji. After a successful return in Lautoka last year following COVID-19 disruptions, the 2024 edition is expected to heighten the excitement and competitive atmosphere.
The competition will spotlight the talents and commitment of young athletes aged under 9 to U14. Patrick Bower, President of the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association, emphasized the significance of the event, noting that trophies will be awarded to the winners in each age group and for overall champions.
Bower announced that various districts have confirmed their participation, including Suva one, Suva two, Nadi, Nadroga Navosa, Lautoka, Bua, Labasa, Macuata South, Vanuabalavu, and Ra. He also mentioned strong interest from districts such as Tailevu South, Northland, Serua Namosi, Lami, and even Wallis and Futuna.
Bower expressed gratitude to key supporters such as the Ministry of Education, Sportsworld, Jack’s of Fiji, RB Patel, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Fiji Sports Council for their essential contributions to making this event successful.
With anticipation building and preparations underway, the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Competition is set to offer another thrilling display of youthful talent. The competition will take place on October 28-29 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
