The Fiji Primary School Athletics competition is poised to be an exciting event, featuring a total of 142 events for both boys and girls, comprising 72 individual events and 18 relays.

Since its inception in the mid-1980s, this celebrated competition has evolved from a local Suva event into a national phenomenon, attracting athletes from every part of Fiji. After a successful return in Lautoka last year following COVID-19 disruptions, the 2024 edition is expected to bring even more thrill and competitiveness.

The upcoming competition will highlight the talents and commitment of young athletes ranging from under-9 to U14 age groups. Patrick Bower, the President of the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association, emphasized the event’s significance, noting that trophies will be awarded to winners in each individual age category and for overall champions.

Bower confirmed the participation of several districts including Suva one, Suva two, Nadi, Nadroga Navosa, Lautoka, Bua, Labasa, Macuata South, Vanuabalavu, and Ra. Additionally, there is significant interest from Tailevu South, Northland, Serua Namosi, Lami, and even Wallis and Futuna.

Bower also expressed gratitude to key supporters such as the Ministry of Education, Sportsworld, Jack’s of Fiji, RB Patel, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Fiji Sports Council for their essential contributions in making this event successful.

With anticipation growing and preparations underway, the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Competition is set to be another remarkable display of youthful talent. The event is scheduled to take place on October 28-29 at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
