The Fiji Primary School Athletics competition is set to be an exciting event featuring a total of 142 events for both boys and girls, comprising 72 individual contests and 18 relays.
Initiated in the mid-1980s, this notable event has evolved from a local competition in Suva to a national phenomenon, attracting athletes from all regions of Fiji. After making a successful comeback in Lautoka last year following disruptions caused by Covid-19, the 2024 edition is anticipated to bring even more thrill and competitive energy.
This year’s competition will highlight the talents and dedication of young athletes ranging from under-9 to U14 age groups. Patrick Bower, President of the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association, emphasized the significance of the event, noting that winners will receive trophies in individual age categories as well as for overall champions.
Bower confirmed the participation of several districts, including Suva one, Suva two, Nadi, Nadroga Navosa, Lautoka, Bua, Labasa, Macuata South, Vanuabalavu, and Ra. He also mentioned strong interest from Tailevu South, Northland, Serua Namosi, Lami, and even Wallis and Futuna.
He expressed gratitude to essential supporters such as the Ministry of Education, Sportsworld, Jack’s of Fiji, RB Patel, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Fiji Sports Council for their crucial roles in making this event a reality.
As excitement builds and preparations are in full swing, the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Competition promises to showcase remarkable young talent. The event is scheduled to take place on October 28-29 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
