Temaru Tupou, a student at Gospel High School, proudly shared his experience of winning a bronze medal in the junior shot-put event at the Fiji Secondary School Fiji Finals athletics competition. He achieved a distance of 13.73 meters, marking a significant milestone in his young athletic career.

At just 15 years old and hailing from Lopta in Rotuma, Tupou expressed immense satisfaction with his performance in his first-ever Fiji finals. “It feels very good and it has been a dream for me to earn a medal as I dedicated myself to training and putting God first in everything that I do,” he remarked. His participation at the Coke Games allowed him to soak up the competitive atmosphere, acknowledging the support he received from his coach and father, who encouraged him throughout his training.

Tupou intends to aim for a gold medal next year, showing his unwavering determination, stating, “I’ll just go back and train hard for next year. I had doubts in winning any medals, but my dad often pushes me to go forward.”

This narrative of perseverance and faith resonates with other young athletes in Fiji, like Sailasa Baledrokadroka, who recently achieved gold in the same event at a previous competition, highlighting a culture of resilience and support among Fijian youth in athletics. The growing camaraderie among schools also fosters inspiration, as many athletes are dedicated to achieving their sporting dreams while maintaining strong support networks that encourage them.

With the excitement surrounding next year’s competitions, there is hope for even more remarkable performances, as these young talents continue to inspire their communities and elevate the status of athletics in Fiji. Their stories, rooted in dedication and driven by faith, exemplify the potential for success within the sporting sphere.
