Rayna Chand, a dedicated 13-year-old student at Wainikoro Public School in Macuata, has made headlines by achieving the highest score in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division. Her impressive total of 485 out of 500 marks marks a historic moment for her school, as this is the first time Wainikoro Public School has reached such an accomplishment.

Rayna excelled in several subjects, scoring 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, a perfect 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. She expressed her gratitude towards her parents, teachers, and school staff for their unwavering support throughout her academic journey.

“I feel proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu,” said Rayna, who mentioned that her hard work was motivated by a desire to make her parents proud. With her father working as an electrician in Suva and her mother as an administrative staff member at the school, Rayna acknowledges their sacrifices to provide for her education. Demonstrating her dedicated work ethic, she routinely studied late into the night and woke up at 4 a.m. to prepare for exams.

The aspiring doctor has consistently been at the top of her class since Year One, emphasizing that while she faced challenges like many students, she did not let them hinder her goals. Her mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed immense pride in her daughter and plans to enroll her at Labasa College for further studies.

Wainikoro Public School’s head teacher, Rajesh Kumar, also shared his pride in Rayna’s achievements and thanked the Ministry of Education’s Labasa office, particularly divisional education officer Iliseva Volai and senior education officer Dharmendra Dayal for their important guidance and support. “This is the first time we received the highest mark in the North, and both the school management and I are immensely proud,” Mr. Kumar noted. Rayna was also recognized as the school dux for this year, highlighting her exceptional academic performance.

In summary, Rayna Chand’s remarkable achievements not only demonstrate her hard work and commitment but also serve as an inspiring story for students facing their own challenges. This accomplishment reflects the potential of young learners to overcome obstacles and excel, shining a light on the importance of support from family, educators, and the community in nurturing such talent.
