The Ministry of Education in Fiji has announced a decrease in the pass rate for the Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination (FY13CE) this year, with the results showing an 86 percent pass rate, down from 91 percent in 2023.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro recognized and extended congratulations to several schools that have shown improvement. Notably, Adi Cakobau School raised its pass rate from 97 percent to an impressive 98 percent, while Vunisea Secondary significantly bolstered its performance from 83 percent to 97 percent.
Additionally, Radrodro expressed gratitude to ten secondary schools that achieved a 100 percent pass rate, which includes institutions like Nadarivatu Secondary, Nilsen High, and Jai Narayan College among others.
Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships and loans through the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) by uploading their results onto their accounts. The Minister urged parents and guardians to engage in meaningful discussions with their children regarding their academic results, emphasizing the importance of support as students navigate their future educational and career paths.
He acknowledged the collective efforts of teachers, students, and parents, which are reflected in the results. Radrodro also reminded students that those who wish to contest their results via a recount or remark can submit their applications within a 30-day provisional period, either at the Examinations and Assessment Office or their nearest District Education Office.
This annual examination serves as a pivotal moment for students as they transition to higher education or the workforce. While the drop in overall pass rates may be a concern, the improvements noted in some schools highlight a commitment to academic excellence and the potential for continued growth in the educational sector.
In conclusion, although the pass rate has decreased, the hard work and dedication from schools, students, and parents shine a light on the positive strides being made in the education system. The message remains clear: with support and determination, students can achieve great success in their future endeavors.
