Hundreds of participants gathered for the Fiji Cancer 5-Kilometer Walk to honor World Cancer Day last Saturday, with events held in both Lautoka and Suva. Survivors, caregivers, advocates, and supporters filled the streets of these two vibrant cities, demonstrating solidarity for this global cause.

In Suva, the Fiji Cancer Society expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming turnout. “Today, the heart of Suva beat as one,” read a post on their social media. “We are absolutely blown away by the hundreds of supporters who laced up their sneakers and joined our 5km Walk to commemorate World Cancer Day. Seeing a sea of people united in the fight against cancer reminds us that no one fights alone. Together, we walked for the survivors, the fighters, and those we hold in our hearts.”

In Lautoka, participants faced rainy weather but remained undeterred as the walk commenced at 6:30 a.m. Litia Qoro, the events and advocacy coordinator for the Fiji Cancer Society’s western branch, acknowledged the tremendous support from the community and corporate sponsors, emphasizing that such backing is vital for raising awareness and funds in the ongoing battle against cancer.

This annual event not only reinforces the spirit of togetherness in the fight against cancer but also highlights the growing awareness and commitment from the Fijian community to support those affected by the disease. Such collective action fosters hope and resilience among individuals and families battling cancer.
