Fiji’s newly established Women in Tech chapter will represent the island nation at the upcoming Women in Tech Global Summit in Osaka, Japan this month. Sagufta Janif, the Country Director, expressed excitement over the opportunity to share their initiatives and experiences on a worldwide platform.

Since its launch in Suva on April 17, 2025, Women in Tech Fiji has joined the global movement aimed at closing the gender gap in technology. This organization operates alongside other chapters in 54 countries, providing access to a wide range of resources and a community of over 250,000 individuals. Ms. Janif emphasized, “This is Fiji’s time to shine, and we are proud to carry your voices with us.”

The gathering has attracted attention from notable leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who reinforced the government’s commitment to inclusive innovation. He highlighted the need for gender mainstreaming in technological initiatives, aiming to align Fiji with global best practices while also unlocking collaboration opportunities.

Notably, the summit will focus on examining the current status of women in technology, discussing subjects such as the advancements in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and blockchain technology. The event underscores the importance of showcasing female contributions to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields, providing a platform for discussing how new technologies can foster inclusive solutions.

As Fiji aspires to enhance the technology sector’s GDP contribution from the current 4.14% to a target of 10% by 2030—in line with their National Digital Strategy—this initiative reflects a growing movement toward empowering women in technology. Drawing from previous successes like the “Girls in ICT” program, Women in Tech Fiji strives to pave the way for future female leaders and innovators in the digital economy.

Overall, Fiji’s active involvement in such international events signals hope for more equitable representation of women in technology, aligning with global efforts for gender equality and empowering vibrant contributions to the tech landscape.
