Local boxing coach Osea Nanovu is confident that Sera Bolatini will claim the super welterweight WBA Oceania title tomorrow night when she faces Australian fighter Connie Chan at the ZEG Kings Boxing Promotions event in Suva’s Vodafone Arena. Bolatini, who is part of Team Boxing Brave Club Fiji, has been preparing intensively under Nanovu’s guidance.

Despite her relatively short career in boxing — with only two matches under her belt — Bolatini is determined to make a strong impression. Her previous fights were against experienced opponents in New Zealand and Australia, though she lost her debut match against Erin Walsh. In contrast, Chan boasts a more extensive record with 14 fights, having secured six victories, four of which were by knockout. Bolatini recognizes the challenge she faces, but her confidence is bolstered by her coach’s belief in her potential.

Chan, who arrived in Fiji earlier this week, expressed her respect for Bolatini, stating that she should not be underestimated. She is also keen for the fight to showcase the advances and capabilities of women in boxing, emphasizing the shared hard work both fighters have invested in their training.

This bout is significant as it highlights the growing interest and representation of women in boxing in Fiji. Events like this not only provide a platform for female athletes but also reflect broader changes in societal perceptions surrounding women in sports. Both Bolatini and Chan are set to demonstrate their skills and dedication, inspiring future generations of female boxers.

With strong community support and increasing participation in women’s boxing, the excitement for the upcoming match is palpable, marking what many hope will be a pivotal moment for the sport in Fiji.
