Daniel Whippy, Managing Director of CARPENTERS Fiji, is currently in a legal situation as he awaits the approval of his visa to travel to the United States for a stem cell procedure. During a session at the Suva Magistrates Court, his lawyer, Suruj Sharma, informed the court that Whippy’s visa application has already been submitted. However, due to a backlog in processing, the appointment dates have been delayed.
Mr. Sharma mentioned that securing an in-person appointment on November 26 at 8:00 AM would be the most promising approach. He indicated that all necessary documentation, including the visa application and flight details, would be prepared by the end of the month.
In addition to his visa concerns, Mr. Whippy faces legal charges alongside former National Fire Authority CEO John O’Connor, who is charged with abuse of office. Both individuals are implicated in allegations regarding the manipulation of findings in an investigation related to a warehouse fire that occurred in April 2018. Mr. O’Connor is accused of instructing NFA personnel to alter the investigation report for personal benefit, while Mr. Whippy stands accused of encouraging Mr. O’Connor in this alleged wrongdoing.
The legal proceedings are scheduled to resume on November 29.
This situation underscores the complexities and challenges that can arise when navigating both legal and health-related issues simultaneously. The hope remains that Mr. Whippy will obtain his visa in time for the critical medical procedure, and that the legal matters will resolve in a fair and just manner.
