Municipal councils across the Western Division of Fiji are reporting minimal infrastructural damage following recent heavy rainfall. Lautoka City Council’s acting CEO, Taitusi Rasoki, highlighted the frequent issue of clogged drains during such weather and assured that council workers are actively clearing the obstructions.
Rakiraki Town Council CEO Peni Duaniwai noted that operations in Rakiraki have returned to normal, mentioning minor issues with the drainage system. He added that they are closely monitoring the situation in anticipation of further rainfall that night.
In Tavua, CEO Sireli Korovulavula reported minor flooding near the Shop N Save Supermarket, adjacent to the Nasivi River. He indicated that although Qalela Rd and the loop road suffered some washing away, they remain passable but will require repairs.
Ba Town Council special administrator Moshim Khan stated that, while heavy rainfall was experienced, there was no flooding reported in the area. Nadi Town Council’s special administrator, Saliceni Raiwalui, confirmed that floodwaters rose briefly but have since receded, allowing for normalcy to return.
Despite attempts to reach Sigatoka Town Council special administrator Adish Naidu for comments, those efforts were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Fiji Roads Authority CEO Apisai Ketenalagi reassured the public that all roads have now been reopened, reflecting the resilience and prompt response of local authorities in managing the weather-related challenges.
