History was made in Palau during the 2025 Pacific Mini Games where 16-year-old Nehemiah Elder showcased his extraordinary talent on the weightlifting stage. Competing in the Men’s 88kg and 94kg categories, Elder turned heads with an impressive performance that resulted in three gold medals and the rewriting of nine records.

Undoubtedly the youngest lifter in a highly competitive field, Elder’s talent shone as he executed a phenomenal lifting session. He started strong with a breathtaking snatch of 155kg, which awarded him his first gold medal and placed him in the record books across multiple categories — Oceania Youth, Oceania Junior, Oceania Senior, and the Pacific Mini Games.

But Elder didn’t stop there. He secured his second gold during the clean and jerk with a lift of 175kg, setting a new Pacific Mini Games record. Completing the day, he achieved a remarkable total lift of 330kg, profoundly impressing the audience, which earned him his third gold medal and further established new records in the Oceania divisions.

His emotional response while receiving the medals highlighted the moment’s significance, not only for him personally but also for Fiji’s weightlifting community. Elder’s recent triumph builds upon a series of successes which include winning two golds and breaking six championship records at the 2025 Under-20 Oceania Weightlifting Championships in Melbourne.

Nehemiah Elder’s achievements are a testament to the strength of Fiji’s youth weightlifting program and the dedication of young athletes in the nation. His consistent performance reflects not only his physical prowess but also the profound impact of training and support from his father and coach, Henry Elder, as well as the community.

As weightlifting events conclude at the Meyuns Sports complex, Elder’s story encourages aspiring athletes throughout Fiji, demonstrating that with hard work and commitment, incredible heights can be reached in sports. His remarkable journey continues to embody hope and ambition, offering a bright future not only for himself but also for the sport of weightlifting in the region.
