Weightlifting Fiji is set to embark on its quest for excellence at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, which will take place from June 29 to July 9. Head coach Henry Elder has outlined the team’s aspirations to be the leading force in the Pacific, Oceania, and Commonwealth stages, while ultimately aspiring to compete globally.
With a team of nine lifters, Elder praised athletes such as Taniela Rainibogi and Nehemiah Elder, highlighting their achievements as motivation for the squad to excel. Elder emphasized the importance of continual improvement, urging his lifters never to be content with past successes but to always aim higher. “Once we finish one competition, we close that chapter and move on, always striving to do better,” he stated.
The upcoming games not only serve as a platform for the athletes to showcase their talents but also reflect their commitment to intensive training. Elder noted that they have been focusing on fine-tuning technical skills, building mental resilience, and ensuring overall preparedness. His message encourages the athletes to view their journey holistically, with careful attention to training, nutrition, and recovery methods.
Previous articles indicate that team members have recently shown strong performances, including Nehemiah Elder, who made history by winning a gold medal at the 2025 IWF World Youth Championships. This layer of achievement adds to the growing sense of anticipation surrounding the team as they strive for 11 to 12 medals at the Mini Games.
The support from the community and stakeholders is vital as the athletes prepare to elevate Fiji’s presence in the world of sports. With a firm commitment to excellence and a positive mindset, there is a hopeful outlook for the team in the competitions ahead, reinforcing their dedication to not only individual achievements but also to uplifting the spirit of Fijian sports on an international level.
