The Fijian weightlifting team is ready to compete in the highly awaited Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, which begins today at the Vodafone Arena. Head coach Henry Elder has put together a formidable squad of 24 athletes, primarily made up of school students, with a few from tertiary institutions and the workforce.
Elder expressed his satisfaction with the team’s dedication and the effort they have invested in training leading up to this event. He highlighted the team’s determination to deliver outstanding performances and secure victories for Fiji.
Elder encourages fans and supporters to attend the championship, noting that there is no entry fee for the event.
Among the 25 countries participating, India will have a significant presence with a total of 21 athletes, consisting of 12 men and nine women. Coach Vijay Rohila mentioned that while the senior team is not competing, the youth and junior teams are focused on striving for victory.
Rohila and his team are committed to winning at all levels of the championship, aspiring to bring honor to their nation. He emphasized their singular goal of victory, reflecting on the team’s hard work leading up to this moment.
