Fiji’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, has expressed his admiration for the outstanding achievements of Weightlifting Fiji athletes at the 2025 Under-20 Oceania Weightlifting Championships held in Melbourne. The minister highlighted that their remarkable performance has not only instilled a sense of national pride but also served as an inspiration for young athletes throughout Fiji pursuing their sporting aspirations.
Among the athletes recognized for their exemplary performances, Nehemiah Elder stood out by winning two gold medals and establishing new records in both the 88kg Youth and Junior categories. His success demonstrates the strength of Fiji’s youth weightlifting program and its ability to cultivate talent. Zion Tokona also made a significant impact, earning a silver medal in the competitive 98kg Junior category, further reinforcing the prowess of upcoming weightlifters from Fiji. Additionally, Tomasi Saukuru’s gold medal in the Junior 110kg category enhances the narrative of Fiji becoming a formidable presence in the weightlifting arena.
