A group of 24 weightlifters will represent Fiji at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, scheduled for September 17. Among the athletes are Fiji’s renowned weightlifters, Taniela Rainibogi and Miriama Taletawa, who recently won the Fiji Sports Council Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards.
Taletawa is set to compete in the 76kg category, while Rainibogi will participate in the 109kg category. Taletawa shared that their training has been quite challenging. “It’s going tough and well; everyone is preparing for this Commonwealth Games, which we will be hosting here in Fiji. Everyone is excited, and overall training is going well,” she stated.
She also highlighted the need to balance her academic commitments with her training regimen. “Sometimes when I’m at home, I study for a bit, and then I come to training. After training, I revisit my studies to ensure I manage both school and training effectively,” Taletawa explained.
Rainibogi, a triple gold medalist from the Pacific Games, expressed his commitment to performing at his best during the competition. The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships will run from September 17 to 21 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
