Fiji-born Australian weightlifter Eileen Cikamatana narrowly missed an Olympic medal, finishing fourth in the women’s 81kg category. In her performance, Cikamatana achieved a personal best and Oceania record with a snatch lift of 117kg. She successfully lifted 145kg in the clean and jerk, bringing her overall total to 262kg. Despite her strong efforts, she was unable to secure a podium position, as Norway’s Solfrid Koanda took the gold with an Olympic record of 275kg. Egypt’s Sara Ahmed earned silver with a total of 268kg, while Ecuador’s Neisi Dajomes claimed bronze with 267kg. Cikamatana is set to compete in Fiji next month during the Commonwealth Weightlifting Qualifying Championships and plans to participate in the World Championships in December in Bahrain.
