The Water Authority of Fiji is set to isolate its raw water pipeline at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura to conduct urgent repairs on a damaged washout valve, which was impacted by flash flooding early this morning. A tree trunk, carried by floodwaters, struck the washout valve of the main raw water line, resulting in the damage.
WAF Manager for Regional Operations, Samuela Rokovaleusa, emphasized the importance of repairing the compromised washout valve to ensure steady water production and maintain operational integrity. He noted that significant amounts of water are currently being lost from the pipe and not making it to the Tamavua treatment facility.
The pipeline isolation work is set to begin today and is anticipated to continue overnight. Rokovaleusa indicated that residents in nearby areas may face water supply disruptions during this time. He assured the public that the operations team will work hard to minimize the inconvenience and expedite the repairs, including providing water carting assistance.
Residents are advised to make necessary preparations for this temporary water supply interruption.
