Fiji’s Water Supply Faces Disruption Amid Urgent Repairs

The Water Authority of Fiji is set to shut off its raw water pipeline leading to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura in order to conduct urgent repairs on a damaged washout valve, which was affected by flash flooding early today.

The damage occurred when a tree trunk, swept away by floodwaters this morning, struck the washout valve of the main raw water line. Samuela Rokovaleusa, Manager of Regional Operations for WAF, emphasized that repairing this valve is crucial for ensuring water production and maintaining operational integrity. He noted that significant amounts of water are currently lost from the pipeline and are not reaching the treatment plant.

The pipeline isolation will begin today and is anticipated to last overnight. During this time, residents in the nearby areas may face interruptions in their water supply. Rokovaleusa reassured the public that the operations team will strive to minimize disruption and will work diligently to complete the repairs promptly, including providing water carting support. Residents are advised to make preparations for this temporary water supply disruption.
