The Water Authority of Fiji is set to isolate its raw water pipeline leading to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura to conduct urgent repairs on a damaged washout valve, which was impacted by flash flooding early this morning.

A tree trunk, carried by floodwaters, struck the washout valve on the trunk raw water main, leading to the damage.

Samuela Rokovaleusa, the WAF Manager of Regional Operations, emphasized that fixing the damaged washout valve is crucial for sustaining water production and ensuring operational integrity. He noted that significant amounts of water are currently being lost from the pipeline and not reaching the treatment plant.

The isolation process is scheduled to begin today and is anticipated to continue overnight. During this time, residents in the nearby areas may face interruptions in their water supply. Rokovaleusa assured the public that his team will strive to minimize the inconvenience and work quickly to complete the repairs while also providing water carting assistance.

Residents are advised to make necessary preparations for this temporary disruption in service.
