The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is actively addressing a disruption in water supply impacting some customers serviced by the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant over the weekend. The issue arose on Friday when the plant encountered elevated turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, attributed to recent rainfall in the area.
WAF stated that these increased turbidity levels led to a significant accumulation of sludge within the plant, which subsequently caused a malfunction in the gearbox of one of its two clarifiers. This breakdown has hampered efforts to restore water production to normal levels, affecting the water supply for many.
In a statement, WAF emphasized, “Our technical team is working around the clock to resolve this issue and restore supply as swiftly as possible. We sincerely apologize for the disruption, particularly for those who have been without water since yesterday.”
WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their continued understanding and patience during this challenging time.
