Fiji’s Water Supply at Risk: Are You Prepared for the Shutdown?

The Water Authority of Fiji has advised residents along the Suva-Nausori corridor to store sufficient water in anticipation of maintenance works planned for this weekend. The maintenance is scheduled to take place from Friday to Sunday, during which there will be temporary water disruptions.

The authority noted that ongoing assessments at the worksite have identified additional risks that need to be addressed to ensure worker safety before any work begins. These risks could potentially delay the project if not managed early on.

Fijians are encouraged to prepare by storing enough water to last through the scheduled water shutdown. The maintenance work aims to facilitate essential connections for a new DN900mm Gravity Main from the Waitolu Reservoir to the existing DN600mm DICL Rising Main from the Waila Water Treatment Plant that serves the Wainibuku Reservoir.

Affected areas will include those supplied by the Wainibuku Reservoir and other connected reservoirs, including Tovata, Nagatugatu, Tacirua, Dokanaisuva, Coloisuva, Kalabu, Nasinu, and Flagstaff Reservoirs.
