Fiji’s Waste Recyclers Makes Waves at 2024 APCO Awards!

Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited has been named a finalist for the esteemed 2024 Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) Awards, scheduled to occur in Sydney in November 2024.

The company is nominated for the Improved Recycling System Award, highlighting its dedication to sustainability and recycling initiatives. WRFL stands out among major players in the industry, including AB Food & Beverages Australia Pty Limited, Circular Plastics Australia (PET) – a partnership of Pact Group and Cleanaway Waste Management, Asahi Beverages, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, and Henkel Australia Pty Ltd.

Being the only Fijian business to receive this nomination and finalist distinction is a significant achievement, reflecting the impact of WRFL’s sustainability efforts over the past thirty years.

Amitesh Deo, founder of the Pacific Recycling Foundation and Director of WRFL, conveyed the company’s enthusiasm about the recognition. “This is an incredible honour to be acknowledged alongside some of the largest and most innovative companies in Australia. This nomination signifies a victory not just for WRFL, but for all of Fiji. We take pride in representing our nation on such a prestigious stage, showcasing our hard work and commitment to sustainability,” Deo stated.

He further encouraged all Fijians to support WRFL as it highlights Fiji’s sustainability achievements internationally, asserting, “This demonstrates the progress we have made in recycling and waste management, confirming that small island nations can create a significant impact in the field of sustainability.”
