The Operation Sasamaki team in Kadavu has made notable strides in the fight against drug cultivation, successfully seizing over 31,000 marijuana plants from a farm situated in the tikina of Ono. This operation, emphasized by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu, is part of a concerted effort to identify and dismantle the networks behind these large-scale drug operations in Fiji.

In a related initiative in the tikina of Yale, police apprehended a 19-year-old man linked to a farm with nearly 4,000 marijuana plants. The efforts against drug cultivation have extended beyond farmland, with recent raids on inter-island vessels in Suva resulting in the seizure of additional illegal substances, aided significantly by K9 officers who have detected unattended bags containing drugs.

Authorities are diligently working to trace the owners of the identified farms and items confiscated in these operations. Police have implemented snap roadblocks and are overcoming challenging terrains in their ongoing efforts, leading to numerous arrests across the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Divisions, addressing issues related to both marijuana and other narcotics.

Commissioner Tudravu has praised the police officers for their resilience amidst difficult circumstances and reiterated the commitment of the police force to a zero-tolerance policy towards drug offenses. He has called for community support in these operations, emphasizing, “We anticipate resistance, but we will not back down, as this is for the future of our children and grandchildren.” This statement underlines the proactive stance taken by law enforcement to ensure the community’s safety and well-being.

The ongoing efforts represent a broader dedication to eradicating drug-related activities in Fiji, which aims to build safer neighborhoods and foster a healthier future for all citizens. The collaboration between law enforcement and the community is critical in effectively addressing substance abuse challenges, creating a hopeful outlook for progress in the battle against drug cultivation.
