Fiji’s Wainiqolo Shatters Defenders Beaten Record in Thrilling Match

Fiji Water Flying Fijians winger Jiuta Wainiqolo achieved a remarkable feat over the weekend, beating 19 defenders during his team’s 30-17 victory against Montpellier. This performance set a new record for defenders beaten in a single match across the four major rugby leagues: Top 14, Super Rugby, URC, and the Premiership, as noted by Opta and RugbyPass.

The 25-year-old, who is also an Olympic gold medallist in rugby sevens, covered a total distance of 155 meters during the game, completing 10 carries and making 2 clean line breaks. Wainiqolo capped off the win with an impressive solo score, picking up a loose ball from halfway and evading several defenders to cross the try line in Round 7 of the French Top 14.

In other news, Olympic gold medallist Sireli Maqala scored a try for his Bayonne team during their 32-15 victory over Josua Tuisova’s Racing 92. Additionally, Adrea Cocagi was sent off for a high elbow incident as Castres secured a 35-13 win against Stade Francais, who are currently struggling in the league.
