The Fiji women’s indoor volleyball team is entering a significant period of change as they prepare for the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau. With new players set to join the squad, head coach Emori Bakewa is working diligently to finalize selections. Ongoing assessments aim to measure player fitness and performance, with the recent Vanua Volleyball Challenge serving as an important platform for evaluation.
Coach Bakewa emphasized the team’s goal to cultivate a competitive unit. “Some of the players participated in the Vanua Volleyball Challenge last month, which helped us assess their strengths and areas for improvement,” he noted. One priority in the selection process is the inclusion of younger talent, with an aim to identify six players under the age of 19 to complement the main 15-member squad.
“The tournament rules require youth participation, so we are scouting for talented young players who can step up and perform at the international level,” added Bakewa. The process of selecting the final roster will continue after assessments scheduled for players based in the Western Division.
This preparation is crucial as the team hopes to make a significant impact during the competition, which will run from June 28 to July 9. With a dedicated coaching staff and a commitment to fostering youth alongside experienced players, Fiji’s women’s volleyball team is poised for a promising challenge on the international stage.
