Fiji’s Vision for Global Influence: The Transformative Foreign Policy Water Paper

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that Fiji’s Foreign Policy Water Paper embodies a comprehensive approach that incorporates all aspects of policy, both domestic and international.

In his remarks to Parliament, Rabuka emphasized that the policy acknowledges that Fiji’s security and prosperity are fundamentally linked to a clear understanding of the nation’s interests and values, as well as the best ways to promote them.

He detailed that the policy outlines Fiji’s self-identity and how the nation aims to present itself globally, particularly through initiatives like the promotion of the Ocean of Peace, which he described as Fiji’s most significant contribution to peace and security in both its immediate neighborhood and the wider Indo-Pacific region.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the White Paper articulates Fiji’s identity and values, effectively defining who the country is and what it stands for.

He further explained that the White Paper lays out the government’s strategy for executing Fiji’s foreign policy, including the systems and resources necessary to mobilize the entire government structure.

Rabuka also noted that this White Paper is integrated into Chapter 3 of Fiji’s National Development Plan and is intended as a response to the ongoing National Security and Defence Review.

According to Rabuka, these elements collectively establish the foundation for the government’s strategy to enhance Fiji’s strategic and economic interests while also bolstering social cohesion within the nation.
