The Fiji Immigration Ministry has issued a warning regarding a fraudulent website claiming to be the country’s official e-Visa platform, describing it as a significant threat to public safety and national security. The scam site, which surfaced on June 24, 2025, has been unlawfully gathering personal information from users who are seeking visa and immigration services.
In a statement, Immigration Permanent Secretary Aliki Salusalu condemned the operation, asserting that it has no connection with the Fijian Government or the Ministry of Immigration. He described the unauthorized site as intentionally designed to mislead and defraud individuals, underlining the ministry’s commitment to safeguarding the public against such cyber threats.
The Ministry is actively collaborating with law enforcement and cyber intelligence agencies to investigate the fraudulent operation and mitigate its associated risks. To avoid falling prey to these scams, the public is encouraged to ensure that any official immigration-related website they visit ends with the government’s domain “.gov.fj,” as only platforms with this designation are authorized and legitimate.
This alert coincides with ongoing warnings from the Consumer Council of Fiji regarding the proliferation of fraudulent visa consultants exploiting the high demand for migration services. Several reports highlighted that many individuals, particularly those eager for overseas employment, have become victims of scams, losing substantial amounts of money to deceitful operators.
The Consumer Council’s chief executive, Seema Shandil, emphasized the importance of conducting due diligence before engaging with suggestive visa consultants, advising the public to verify credentials and suspicious claims. With increasing vigilance and awareness, there is hope that potential victims can be protected, and the prevalence of such scams can be reduced in Fiji.
