Fiji’s Victory Sparks Rugby Ranking Shake-Up!

The FIJI Water Flying Fijians have ascended to ninth place in the World Rugby rankings following their 41-17 triumph over Japan in the final of the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup. This impressive change comes after an exhilarating series of test matches that captured the attention of a global audience across different time zones.

Fiji entered the elimination rounds as the leaders of Pool A, having triumphed over strong opponents, including Samoa in Suva and Tonga in Nuku’alofa. Their semifinal encounter with the USA proved to be a tough challenge, but the Flying Fijians demonstrated their resilience, surging ahead in the closing moments to earn a spot in the championship match against the host nation.

Japan, coached by the renowned Eddie Jones, also made notable progress in the tournament. However, they could not overcome a determined Fijian team, led by coach Mick Byrne, who stressed the significance of nurturing young talent for the future.

Fiji’s advancement in the rankings results in Australia dropping to 10th place for the first time, while Argentina rises to 6th. South Africa now holds the 2nd position, with Ireland maintaining the lead at the top of the standings.
