Team Fiji taekwondo athlete Venice Traill made history as she concluded her participation in the Olympic Games in Paris. Following her match on Saturday, Traill confirmed that this was her first and last time competing at the Olympics. She is now shifting her focus towards coaching and supporting young athletes in their quests for Olympic success.
The 27-year-old athlete faced off against Rebecca McGowan of Great Britain, who is ranked third in the world, ultimately losing with a score of 2-0. Traill has stated that this event marks the end of her competitive career, and she is eager to dedicate herself to training and mentoring emerging talents.
Expressing her passion for coaching and sports management, she intends to return to Fiji and engage with existing programs to help young athletes achieve their Olympic dreams. Traill aims to pass on her knowledge and experiences to guide aspiring athletes in realizing their full potential.
“I am looking towards coaching and managing the sport of taekwondo when I go home,” Traill remarked. “There are programs in place where I can fulfill this. I’m very excited to return and share whatever I’ve learned.”
In recognition of her commitment to the sport, Traill was honored to be selected as Fiji’s flag bearer, alongside swimmer David Tolu Young, for the closing ceremony.
