Fiji Outrigger successfully organized its inaugural V6 Regatta Sprints of the year at Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi. This event marked a significant opportunity for paddlers to gain essential race experience and engage in strong competition while gearing up for the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Palau, set to take place later this month.

President Loretta Ooms noted that participating teams included clubs from both western and central divisions of Fiji. She highlighted the timely nature of the regatta, stating, “So we have our first V6 sprint regatta today, so clubs from Suva have come; they left very early this morning. So we have regattas every month, and this is the first V6 regatta.”

Ooms acknowledged the challenges associated with hosting such events, particularly around funding for venue and equipment rentals. Despite these difficulties, she expressed gratitude towards sponsors, families, and supporters whose contributions have enabled the organization of these tournaments.

The enthusiasm surrounding this regatta resonates with the ongoing efforts within Fiji’s sporting community, paralleling similar events like the recent swimming trials and youth sailing competitions. The commitment shown by athletes across these sports showcases the hard work and determination prevalent within Fiji’s vibrant athletic culture as they aim for success at the Pacific Mini Games.

Overall, the spirit of collaboration and community support is a hopeful indication of the direction in which Fijian sports are heading, fostering talents and creating opportunities for young athletes to shine on international stages.
