Fijians are being alerted to a recent scam targeting iPhone users, wherein fraudulent messages are being circulated via Apple’s iMessage platform. The Anti-Scam Taskforce has clarified that these messages are falsely presenting job offers from a supposed entity called “Seek HR Management,” advertising remote assistant positions that claim to pay extraordinarily high wages of between FJD $200 to $1,500 for as little as 15 minutes of work. Alongside these job offers, there are misleading claims regarding Bitcoin ATM installations in major Fijian cities such as Suva and Lautoka.

Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, who chairs the Taskforce, has underscored the severity of this issue, stating, “This is not just a consumer issue, it is a national issue. We cannot allow criminal actors to exploit digital platforms to deceive our citizens.” He urged the public to remain vigilant against unsolicited job offers, emphasizing the need for individuals to verify opportunities through official channels and cautioning against sharing personal or financial information with unknown sources.

Similar warnings have been echoed by organizations like the Consumer Council of Fiji, which has pointed out the rise of scams that employ sophisticated tactics to appear credible, targeting unsuspecting individuals amidst the growing digital platform usage. As these deceptive schemes evolve, public awareness and education on identifying potential scams have become crucial for safeguarding personal information and financial security.

In light of these developments, it is imperative that Fijians remain skeptical of offers that seem too good to be true, and promptly report any suspicious messages to relevant authorities. By fostering a culture of vigilance and responsible digital communication, communities can collaborate to protect themselves from fraud.
