Fiji’s Upcycling Revolution: Meet the Entrepreneur Shaping a Sustainable Future

Fiji is witnessing a surge in the upcycling movement, led by emerging entrepreneur Tikosaya Ledua, who is determined to establish the country’s first upcycling hub. Recently awarded the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2023 FDB National SME Awards in Suva, Ledua is making significant strides in the business.

As the founder and principal artist of Ledua’s Arts Collection, she specializes in creating art and household items from recycled materials. Her recent accolades signal growth and motivate her to expand by developing an upcycling hub aimed at engaging women and educating the community about upcycling practices.

Ledua credits the recognition to a mix of divine support, participation in MSME trainings and workshops, the distinctiveness of her brand, and effective digital marketing strategies. She also acknowledges her husband for bringing her design ideas to fruition.

“There is a huge market for upcycling that remains untapped. This presents a significant opportunity for us as we delve into upcycling and related economies,” Ledua stated.

She also highlighted her collaboration with the Ministry of Women to connect government programs with community initiatives focused on rural women. In addition to her ventures, Ledua is part of the Fiji Enterprise Engine, an accelerator program designed to enhance the capabilities of MSMEs.

She encourages women and women-led businesses to persevere despite challenges. “If you aren’t facing struggles while hustling, you’re not hustling correctly. Those challenges are essential for growth. Keep pursuing your passion and strive to make a positive impact in your community,” Ledua advised.
