The Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling drug trafficking in the country following a crucial meeting at RFMF Headquarters. The gathering saw Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, the Commander of the RFMF, and Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu strategizing on how to counter the serious threat posed by drug-related crimes to the community.

In a statement, the RFMF stressed the urgency of addressing the rising challenge of drug trafficking. As a result of their discussions, a joint task force has been established to initiate coordinated operations aimed at identifying, disrupting, and dismantling drug trafficking networks in high-risk areas throughout Fiji.

Major General Kalouniwai highlighted the military’s readiness to support police efforts in ensuring national security and public safety, indicating a willingness for joint operations. Commissioner Tudravu welcomed this enhanced partnership, underscoring the importance of collaboration between agencies in effectively combating the illicit drug trade.

This initiative emerges at a time when both forces acknowledge that drug-related issues are intertwined with broader societal challenges such as poverty, healthcare access, and educational inequities. Thus, the newly formed joint task force will not only focus on law enforcement but will also seek to engage communities in tackling the root causes of drug abuse.

As the collaborative operations commence, there is an optimistic outlook for the future. Officials believe that these united efforts will contribute to safer communities, representing a collective stand against drug-related threats. This approach reflects a broader understanding that addressing the drug problem in Fiji requires comprehensive solutions that target underlying issues, ultimately fostering a healthier and more secure environment for all citizens.
