The Fiji Sports Council (FSC) Under-20 team is gearing up for a promising tour of New Zealand next month, with strong intentions to succeed. Head coach Sireli Bobo shared insights about the team’s preparations, noting that they will convene for training starting January 3, ahead of their scheduled departure on January 29.
Bobo expressed his appreciation for the FSC’s initiative in hosting the Under-20 sevens series, which featured multiple rounds in various locations including Navua, Sigatoka, Savusavu, Rakiraki, and culminated at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on November 30. The series highlighted the emergence of many young talents, showcasing competitive matches that even challenged established clubs.
Players from teams like Village Boys, QVSOBs, Ca’au, and Dominion Brothers demonstrated impressive skills throughout the series. Bobo emphasized the primary goal of the tour, which is to enhance players’ exposure and development, particularly those emerging from grassroots levels. He is optimistic about the team’s abilities and aims to prepare them thoroughly for the challenges ahead.
This tour holds special significance, not just as an opportunity for competition but also as a chance for some team members to experience flying on an airplane for the first time. Bobo noted that the team’s creation goes beyond this tour, providing a solid platform for young players aspiring to represent Fiji in the future.
As the team prepares for this exciting opportunity, there is a shared sense of hope and ambition for their success on the international stage, fostering both personal growth and the potential for future achievements in Fiji rugby.
