Fiji’s U20 Women Ready to Take on the World: A Championship Journey Begins!

The Digicel Fiji U20 women’s team is set to embark on an international tour, which will include stops in the United States and Costa Rica before competing in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

Initially, the team will spend ten days in the United States, where they will participate in training and matches in San Francisco and Sacramento. After their time in the U.S., they will head to Costa Rica for a week, where they will play international friendly matches against Costa Rica and Morocco.

In a ceremony that highlighted both sports and culture, the team received their World Cup jerseys, featuring traditional Fijian designs that reflect the nation’s heritage. The jerseys serve as a reminder of the athletes’ role as ambassadors of Fijian culture on the global stage.

Midfielder Adi Litia Bakaniceva has been appointed captain, with Angie Rekha taking on the role of vice-captain. The support from local businesses has been significant, particularly from Sports World, which has provided Puma boots and runners for the team.

This journey is not only about competition but also fosters preparation and team bonding. Fiji faces a tough challenge at the World Cup, as they are in a group with Brazil, Canada, and France. Their first match is scheduled against Brazil on August 31 in Medellin, Colombia.
